چکیده

An approach for acquiring dimensionally accurate 3D ultrasound data, based on a modified 1D transducer array, is presented. The method avoids many of the drawbacks of conventional approaches to 3D ultrasound data acquisition. Scanning is simple and easy to perform in a clinical setting. A modified 1D transducer array is employed comprising a central conventional 1D ‘Imaging’ array and two perpendicular ‘Tracking’ arrays – each integrally mounted at each end of the ‘Imaging’ array. As the transducer is scanned in the elevation direction of the central array, the images acquired by the ‘Tracking’ arrays remain coplanar and hence it is possible to accurately track image motion using any one of several image tracking techniques. Methods for improving the performance and ergonomics of the transducer array are presented. In particular, a crossed electrode transducer structure is proposed for minimizing the total transducer ‘footprint’ (contact surface area). The versatility of the approach in terms of its suitability for scanning breast, carotid and prostate is discussed. We have acquired both phantom and in-vivo 3D ultrasound data with the prototype imaging approach. Initial studies suggest that the linear dimensional accuracy in the elevation direction (i.e., the reconstructed direction) is approximately 5%.

Correlation analysis of three-dimensional strain imaging using ultrasound two-dimensional array transducers.

Two-dimensional (2D) transducer arrays represent a promising solution for implementing real time three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound elastography. 2D arrays enable electronic steering and focusing of ultrasound beams throughout a 3D volume along with improved slice thickness performance when compared to one-dimensional (1D) transducer arrays. Therefore, signal decorrelation caused by tissue motio...

B-Mode Photoacoustic Imaging using Linear Array: Numerical Study for Forward-Backward Minimum Variance Beamformer Combined with Delay-Multiply-and-Sum

Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) is a promising medical imaging modality which provides the resolution of Ultrasound (US) and the contrast of Optical imaging modalities. One of the most important challenges in PAI is image formation, especially in the case that a linear-array US transducer is used for data acquisition. This is due to the fact that in the linear-array scenario, there is only 60 degre...

Adaptive beamforming in row-column addressed arrays for 3D ultrasound imaging

In recent years, to reduce the complexity of implementation, the use of 2D arrays with restricted row-column addressing has been considered for 3D ultrasound imaging. In this paper, two methods of adaptive beamforming based on the minimum variance method are represented in such a way that the computational load is much less than using the full adaptive beamforming method. In both proposed metho...

2D Transducer Array for High-Speed 3D Imaging System

3D imaging system was developed utilizing a combination of sparse 2D arrays, the synthetic aperture focusing technique, and coded excitation of a solution for high-speed 3D ultrasound imaging, since it could formulate multiple transmitting beams as well as receiving beams with a minimum number of transmissions. A 40 × 40 array of PZT elements was fabricated with a conventional dice-and-fill pro...

Active Fourier Contour Applied to Real Time 3D Ultrasound of the Heart

We describe an active contour based on the elliptical Fourier series, and its application to matrix-array ultrasound. Matrix-array, or Real Time 3D (RT3D), ultrasound is a relatively new medical imaging modality that scans a 3D-volume electronically without physically moving the transducer, allowing for real-time continuous 3D imaging of the heart. With the goal of automatically tracking the he...
